Cygnet Law supports Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council with revamped family room

Cygnet Law has made a donation to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council to refurbish its family room at Seafield House in order to make it more comfortable for visiting children and young people.

Seafield House is home to the Adult and Children’s services element of the council’s social services department, and is frequently visited by vulnerable families requiring support.

The Redcar-based law firm gave the council £200 towards the room, which required redecoration, and new toys, games and equipment to keep the youngsters entertained when they or their parents attended appointments there.

The room was formerly more suited to pre-school children, however staff at Seafield House found that more older children and teenagers were visiting, and had nothing to do while they were waiting.

It has now been divided into two distinct sections, one for younger children with toys and games, and one for older children with a television and Xbox.

Councillor Craig Hannaway, Cabinet Member for Children said: “On behalf of the team, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Cygnet Law for its generous donation. Without the support of local businesses and donations, we wouldn’t have been able to transform the space into something incredibly special.”

Wendy Medd, Service Manager at Seafield House, said: “We support a number of families in Teesside and we want any visiting youngsters to feel comfortable and safe whenever they come. This room now has everything they need for that and more.”

John McEnaney, Legal Assistant at Cygnet Law, said: “Cygnet Law works a great deal with the community in Redcar, and we wanted to help to make a difference at Seafield House. It can be incredibly distressing for children when they are involved in social services cases, and we support the council’s decision to make the room more appealing to young people to make them feel more at ease.

“The team at Seafield House are doing a fantastic job, and the family room looks great. I have no doubt that anyone using the room will thoroughly enjoy themselves.”
