Cygnet Law in Redcar is celebrating after being shortlisted for the Training and Apprenticeships Award in the annual Tees Businesswomen Awards.

The firm, which in the past three years has supported 10 trainees and apprentices, as well as regular shadowing and training for college and school students, has been shortlisted alongside the Halo Project and Beyond Housing.

This is the second time that Cygnet Law has been recognised at the prestigious awards, with solicitor Stacy Phoenix shortlisted at last year’s inaugural awards in the Inspiring Others category. Five of Cygnet Law’s seven directors are women who have progressed through the firm.

The firm has grown substantially over the past three years, with many permanent members of staff joining the team after completing training and apprenticeships with Cygnet Law.

The awards will be announced at a ceremony held at Wynyard Hall Grand Marquee on 24 October.

Eleanor Barber, a solicitor with Cygnet Law who trained with the firm, said: “Cygnet Law is a fantastic firm to start your career with, because everyone is incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. Most of the team are local, meaning we’re like a big family, and you don’t feel new for very long. There’s always someone to help you fit in.

“When you start on a new career path, it can be quite daunting, but the team at Cygnet do their best to make it less scary or awkward. Working here at the beginning of my legal career has really got me off to a great start.”

Peter Medd, a director and solicitor at Cygnet Law, said: “I’m incredibly proud that Cygnet Law has been nominated and shortlisted for the Training and Apprenticeships Award in the annual Tees Businesswomen Awards.

“We’re passionate about developing new recruits to the legal sector and helping them to find their specialisms to help the people of Redcar and Cleveland in the best possible way. Whether or not we take home a trophy on the night, the team are all winners in my eyes.”
