‘Walking The Amazon’ for Alzheimer’s Society

Posted on: May 29th, 2020

We’re taking on a huge challenge to walk the length of the Amazon River throughout June to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Our team of more than 30 staff will each log approximately four miles of walking or running each day from 1 – 30 June in order to cover the 4000-mile journey.

We’ll be logging their progress on our social media pages with photographs and videos, along with a daily update of how many miles we have achieved – so make sure you follow us to keep up to date!

Our team takes part in a sponsored walk each year for different charities, and this year we’ve selected the Alzheimer’s Society due to the devastating effect of the coronavirus crisis on people living with dementia.

Gemma Brooke, director and head of conveyancing, wills and probate at Cygnet Law, said: “We do a lot of work with older people when arranging wills or powers of attorney, as well as acting for vulnerable people and their families in cases within the Court of Protection so we’ve seen first-hand how people living with Alzheimer’s disease and their carers have been affected throughout this crisis.

“Like many of our staff I have also experienced the impact of this disease within my own family and for that reason the cause is close to my heart. We thought the sponsored walk would be an ideal way to show our support to this amazing charity.

“The team can’t get together for our walk this year, as we usually would, so we decided to do something a bit different. We’ve challenged ourselves to, between us, walk the length of the Amazon River, which is over 4000 miles. We’ve given ourselves a month to do it, and with more than 30 of us taking part, that means we’ll each have to do around four miles a day to hit our target by the end of June.

“We’d like to raise £1000 for the charity, and we hope we can make a significant donation to such a worthy cause.

“Together with our families and our four-legged friends, we’re going to be providing regular updates on our social media channels, so we hope that people will follow our progress and donate what they can.”
